Textile Exchange is launching a new Responsible Mohair Standard (RMS), which verifies that the mohair that has been produced in farming systems respects animal welfare and the environment. The new standard is designed to ensure that the Angora goats from which the fiber for the mohair wool is taken are treated humanely. The new RMS is based on and closely aligned with the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) that was introduced in 2016 and has recently undergone its first revision. Founded as Organic Exchange in 2002, the Textile Exchange is a global non-profit organization based in Lubbock, Texas, that works with all sectors of the textile supply network to drive industry transformation and responsible supply chains. Its members include 210 companies and organizations from more than 25 countries.
