Christian Prudhomme, the Tour de France director, has confirmed in an interview with the Guardian that there will be a women’s race in 2022 and that it will be held closely after the three-week men’s Tour. Further details on the race will be presented in October, which is also the period in which the men’s Tour is typically unveiled. Prudhomme added that a women’s race was supposed to be held this year, but ultimately was not because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the Tokyo Olympics, postponed from 2020. It will not be a premiere, though, as a women’s Tour de France was previously held from 1984 to 1989. The Tour de France is organized by Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O.), which will also continue to organize its La Course by Le Tour de France anyway, a one-day women’s road bicycle race, Cyclingnews reported.
