Angling Direct, the U.K.-based fishing tackle retailer, saw revenues jump by 27 percent to £67.6 million (€77.7m-$94.5m) in the financial year to the end of January, despite the company’s stores in the U.K. were forced to close due to pandemic-related restrictions for 82 days last year, from March 24 to June 14, and once again this year from Jan. 5. The performance was mostly driven by people turning to the sport during the pandemic and the strong momentum in online sales, which grew by 40 percent to £35.3 million (€40.5m-$49.2m). The number of visitors to the company’s U.K. website reached 7.4 million, namely 2.5 million more than the previous financial year. The total number of stores increased from 34 to 38, with the new stores contributing £2.2 million (€2.5m-$3.0m) in sales. The company said it now looks forward to reopening its physical stores in April, in line with the government’s roadmap.
