Agnès Mermoz, a veteran of the French sporting goods industry, has created a new web shop, Altitoo, specializing in the sale of outdoor products over the internet on the French market together with a webmaster, Romain Jouas. The site offers men’s and women’s apparel, footwear and accessories but does not sell equipment.
Mermoz, 47, worked with Atomic between 1987 and 1995 and with Go Sport, one of the leading sporting goods retail chains in France, between 1995 and 2009. She also worked with, an online retailer of new and secondhand skiing equipment.
Altitoo, which started operating in March, sells only goods in stock to guarantee delivery within 48 hours within France. It carries 30 brands and 730 items for the spring/summer collection. For the fall/winter season, the site expects to have 55 brands and 3,000 items. It aims to achieve the turnover of a large brick-and-mortar store in the first 12 months of activity.
The new web store targets customers aged between 25 and 60. The two other pure national e-commerce retailers in the French outdoor market are expé and snowleader, but Cabela’s has entered the market, too, as we have previously reported, and the country’s major brick-and-mortar outdoor specialist, Au Vieux Campeur, has just launched its own online store.
