The “Outdoor Celebrity Award” was presented yesterday at the OutDoor show for the fifth time and went to Bo Hilleberg. With an established reputation for high-end tents, the Swede started in cooperation with his wife Renate in 1971. In 2003, he walked away from operating business at the Hilleberg company to leave the leadership to his son. The panel granted him the award for his entrepreneurial achievements, his personal qualities and for his commitment to life outdoors.
The eight OutDoor Industry gold awards for the best products of the year were announced last night as well. 47 winners had already been selected from 412 applications in the run-up to the show, but it remained to be seen who would take the coveted top prizes.
The winners of the gold awards are: the “Laser Ultra” tent from Terra Nova, the “Tick-Test” from Care Plus (Tropicare), the “Einride 2.0” jacket from Klättermusen, the children’s shoe “Mountain WMS” from Ricosta, the “SynMat 7 UL” from Exped, the water purifying filter “Adventurer Opti” from Steripen, the carabiner “GridLock” from Black Diamond and last, but not least the “Bare-Grip” trail running shoe from Inov-8.
