Athletic Greens, a New York-based nutrition company that heavily markets its flagship product AG1, a foundational nutrition drink, through influencers on social media, announced that it has received $115 million in funding. The round was led by Alpha Wave Ventures, with participation from about two dozen individuals and companies, including U.S. pro extreme climber Alex Honnold. At the same time, the company announced that Rick Gerson, chairman of Alpha Wave Global, and Mark Vadon, founder of Zulily and Blue Nile and former chairman of Chewy, will join Athletic Greens’ board. The company intends to use the funds to accelerate the growth of its subscriber base, invest in its global manufacturing and logistics capabilities, and expand distribution through digital and offline channels. Athletic Greens was founded in 2010 by CEO Chris Ashenden and has operations in North America, Europe, China and New Zealand.
