The Gore fabrics division, part of W.L. Gore & Associates, has achieved full compliance with the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification for its production sites in Germany and China. GRS is an international, voluntary product standard (issued by the nonprofit organization Textile Exchange) that sets requirements for the certification of recycled content, social and environmental practices, restrictions on the use of chemicals and due diligence. According to this chain of custody, each individual stage from recycling to production must be certified, from the start of the recycling phase to the final reseller of a product. According to GRS, also information and relevant documents must be collected about the locations where materials are stored and on-site inspections must be made possible.

The GRS is applicable to any product that consists of at least 20 percent GRS-certified recycled material; end products bearing the GRS logo must contain at least 50 percent GRS-certified recycled material. According to company information, Gore has conducted pre-audits and implemented those environmental, social and chemical requirements of the standard that were previously not covered by the existing certifications for Gore laminates (Bluesign and ISO 14001). The Gore fabrics division plans to offer GRS-certified laminates to its customers in selected business areas in summer 2022.
