Throughout June (the declared Great Outdoors Month), Merrell invites consumers in the U.S. and around the world to participate in the #DoItOutdoorsChallenge and move traditional indoor activities outdoors. Each week of the month, Merrell launches a new initiative with the help of individuals and organizations to show that the outdoors is an accessible experience for all.

  • Self-care is greater outdoors: to kick off Great Outdoors Month, Merrell is partnering with Taylor Morrison and Inner Workout to develop a sensory walking meditation via the Merrell blog and social media channels to help consumers take care of themselves outdoors for free.
  • Learning is greater outdoors: through its ongoing partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Merrell will raise awareness of the importance of community outdoors by curating special outdoor activity guides that young and old can do together.
  • Community is greater outdoors: to celebrate diversity and inclusion in the outdoors, the brand will launch a version of one of its trail running shoes designed by artist Latasha Dunston. Merrell will donate 25 percent of the proceeds up to $15,000 to Vibe Tribe Adventures, an organization that encourages people of color to explore the outdoors.
  • Music is greater outdoors: to celebrate the joy of music and the outdoors, Merrell is partnering with U.S. brewery Michelob for a series of sunset hikes taking place this summer and giving away concert tickets stateside.

In the U.S., Great Outdoors Week was launched in 1998 under President Clinton and has since grown into a month-long celebration of the outdoors. Since 2008, more and more states have joined in, designating June as a month to celebrate the great outdoors.
