U.S.-based company Unifi, which specializes in synthetic and recycled yarns (registered trademarks include the Repreve fiber), has published its sustainability report for fiscal 2022. The report provides an expanded view of Unifi’s sustainability strategy and the company’s approach to creating long-term value for its stakeholders. Concurrent with the release of the report, Unifi reaffirmed its commitment to divert and recycle 50 billion plastic bottles by 2025.
- The report details progress on Unifi’s corporate and sustainability strategy, which is based on three pillars: people, environment and products. Highlights from the report include:
- More than 35 billion bottles were recycled - five billion more than originally planned
- A 19 percent reduction in carbon emissions per revenue dollar was achieved
- Reduced total waste generation by 14 percent per revenue dollar
- Deployed new texturing technology with energy savings of 20 percent per pound of product made
- Expanded certification capabilities to provide greater transparency and traceability at the product level
- Announcing a commitment to expand innovative product offerings and circular processes on a global scale
Unifi’s 2022 sustainability report is aligned with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) frameworks and builds on the information published in fiscal 2021.
