Décathlon is expanding very rapidly in Italy, where it had 56 stores at the end of 2009. Five new ones have already been opened so far this year and five others are expected before the year is over. Décathlon already has 75 stores in Spain, where it has announced that it will not pass on the increase in the national VAT. Meanwhile, reports from Romania indicate that the first Décathlon store in the country turned in sales of €9.1 million last year – or more than €1 million per month, as it opened in April. The retailer has plans to add five more stores in the country this year
