Shortly before the OutDoor show, Ortovox has been bought by Schwanhäusser Industrie Holding, a company that markets and manufactures cosmetics as well as writing materials known under the Schwan-Stabilo brand. Schwanhäusser also owns Deuter, the important brand of backpacks and sleeping bags.
Schwanhäusser has frequently announced that it would be ready to buy more outdoor companies to strengthen the portfolio around Deuter. Now the holding company has acquired Ortovox and appointed Christian Schneidermeier as new managing director.
Based outside Munich, Ortovox was owned by Gerald Kampel, who sold his company for reasons of age and succession. Ortovox is well-known among specialty retailers and outdoor enthusiasts for its avalanche transceivers. What may be less known on the international stage is that the brand was one of the first movers in promoting merino apparel.
