Retailtrends.nl reports that camping outfitter Obelink has just opened its online shop to third-party suppliers from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, becoming the first specialized camping and outdoor marketplace. In addition to its web store, the retailer, which was founded in 1960, also operates a megastore with around 72,500 square meters in Winterswijk near the German border. This makes it the largest camping retailer in BeNeLux and certainly one of the biggest in Europe. The retailer’s turnover is estimated by industry insiders at around €135 million per year. According to retailtrends.nl, the new marketplace will be operated by the respective suppliers themselves, including the definition of assortment and prices. In the future, Obelink could open the platform also to service offers, enabling customers to book repairs or maintenance services for caravans or motorhomes, trips or workshops.
