Florida-based The Ironman Group has announced the promotion of Stefan Petschnig to chief business development officer and Matt Wikstrom to chief partnerships officer, resulting in shifts in the management structure and several promotions.
Petschnig’s successor is Thomas Veje Olsen, who has been promoted to SVP & managing director Europe, Middle East & Africa Region. In his new role, Olsen will be responsible for managing all Ironman Group events across the EMEA region. He joined the Ironman Group in 2013 through the acquisition of YWC Sports, which brought in a number of events based in Denmark, including Ironman Copenhagen and Ironman 70.3 Elsinore. As part of the acquisition, he joined the EMEA team first as race director/country manager for Denmark and then as regional director for Scandinavia.
Wikstrom, who was promoted to chief partnerships officer, joined Ironman Group in 2019 as VP of global partnerships and most recently served as senior vice president. During his two-year tenure with the company, he led the sales team and growth of Ironman’s partner portfolio across multiple series, despite operating in a global pandemic, including leading and directly closing a number of negotiations. In his new role, he will lead the global partnerships team globally.
In addition, Declan Byrne (with the group since 2018 as part of the Titan acquisition), Ryan Garka (with the group since 2020 following positions with International Speedway Corp./NASCAR and corporate law firm King & Spalding), Nick Paskiewicz (who started with the company as an intern), Julia Polloreno (former publisher and editor-in-chief of Triathlete magazine), Louise Ravenscroft (with the group since 2018 as director of partnership activation), Stefan Scheuermann (with the group since 2010), Jeff Taylor (with Ironman since 2018, having previously worked at Home Shopping Network and Exel/DHL Supply Chain) and Rebecca Van Pooss (who returned to The Ironman Group in 2015 after working at the London Olympics and Fairfax) were promoted to VPs based on their continued contributions and key roles within the company.
