Jarden Corporation has reported a 10 percent increase in net sales to $1.46 billion for the third quarter ended Sept. 30. Net income more than tripled to $63.8 million. Total revenues from the Outdoor Solutions group, which includes Coleman, Camping Gaz, Marmot, Atlas, and Tubbs among others, were up by 24.4 percent to $620.1 million for the quarter. Operating earnings for the unit were $60.9 million, up from $16.2 million last year. The chief executive officer, Martin E. Franklin, noted that the tough economic climate has more customers staying close to home, which benefited the company’s Coleman outdoor equipment business. The company is optimistic as it heads into the quarter that generates the highest cash flow of the year.Meanwhile, Greg Shearson, chief executive of the outdoor division since November 2007, has stepped down.
