LaCrosse Footwear saw sales climb by 1.2 percent to $40.8 million for the third quarter, but net income went the other direction, falling by 21.4 percent to $2.2 million. Sales of outdoor products dropped by 10.1 percent to $2.2 million as the worldwide retail market remained weak. Work products grew by 13.3 percent to $22.1 million, largely with sales to the U.S. military. The overall gross margin was down by 0.6 percentage points to 38.6 percent as the proportion of military sales increased. For the first nine months of the year, sales were up by 4 percent to $96.6 million, while net income declined by 36 percent to $3.2 million.
