Merrell has sold more than 400,000 pairs of shoes from its new ?Barefoot? collection for its first market introduction next month, larger than its initial introduction of the famous ?Jungle Moc.? Merrell generated total revenues of $450 million, including apparel, and sold more than 14 million pairs of shoes last year, managers of Wolverine World Wide said at the recent ICR Exchange conference for analysts. The group wants to see Merrell's apparel sales reach a level of $150 million in five years' time. Its direct-to-consumer business should rise from 7 to 15 percent of sales. Merrell currently operates 90 retail stores and is featured at three dozen e-commerce sites. Online sales will be added in five more countries this year. Strong growth is expected for Wolverine's recently acquired Chaco brand, which is now sold in 24 countries. The Chaco children's line will be introduced internationally this year.
