Nielsen Expositions has decided to stop holding its Action Sports Retailer trade show, held twice a year for almost 30 years, saying it was suspending it indefinitely. The organizers said that the show, held in San Diego, had to be dropped because of the tough economic climate and the consolidation in the action sports industry. In recent years the ASR show has seen drops in attendance. The two shows in 2010 reported a total of 22,000 visitors. Other factors affecting the decision included challenges meeting order deadlines for vendors, tougher competition from other shows and the loss of some big players. Nielsen still runs the Interbike, Outdoor Retailer, Fly Fishing and Health & Fitness trade shows. It is urging companies that would have participated in ASR to take part in Outdoor Retailer in January.
