Nikon Sports Optics is informing its retail customers that it is determined to fight parallel imports of its own original products into the European Union. Nikon has had some trouble with dealers online and elsewhere who do not order their goods from their local distributor, but from sources outside the EU. The Japanese brand says this conflicts with its desire to select only top-quality retailers who can provide appropriate service at the point of sale. To secure the necessary quality of its retail partners, Nikon is about to do some test purchasing, especially on the internet, in order to check whether retailers buy from their authorized wholesale partners. Unauthorized dealers might be sued. End consumers who have bought Nikon products that were imported in an unauthorized way from outside the EU might pay for warranty services.
