It will be interesting to see what the European Outdoor Group will have to say for the European market for footwear, apparel and equipment at the new OutDoor by Ispo show in Munich this coming Sunday. Like our survey, its study is based on the brands' sales to the trade.
According to the global estimates of the outdoor market compiled by the NPD Group, whose studies are based on consumer panels, footwear was the most dynamic segment of the outdoor market in Europe last year. Supported by their use for leisure activities, sales of outdoor apparel were up, too.
Excluding snowsports, the outdoor market grew by 3 percent in Europe last year, according to NPD, but the growth did not come from the five major Western European countries. In fact, the German market was negatively oriented.
