As the outdoor industry counts down to the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, being held Aug. 1-5 in Salt Lake City, organizers are adding new events and programs every week. More than 850 past exhibitors are returning, and more than 300 are making their debut.
New events have been added to the Open Air Demo, being held on Aug. 1 at Jordanelle Reservoir, where retailers and media representatives can get hands-on experience with new products from 150 brands. Some of the events this year include an Olympic-style 200-meter paddleboard sprint, a paddle/pedal challenge, a casting competition and a GPS treasure hunt, all with corporate sponsors.
On the mezzanine of the Salt Palace Convention Center, or The Mezz @ OR, visitors will find the Ispo Wi-Fi Lounge and a bike blender competition – make your own smoothie or margarita – as well as more than 48 new brands.
The overall surface area of the exhibition more than doubles this summer, with an additional 50,000 square feet in the New Exhibitor Pavilion. Next to that is the popular SUP Tank for testing flatwater stand-up paddling, as well as information on this fast-growing sport.
For the first time, Outdoor Retailer will have a Street Scene, complete with a beer garden and food trucks. Only attendees with show badges can attend. On Saturday, August 4, the Ragnar Relay Series and the Outdoor Industry Women's Coalition are sponsoring a challenge where visitors can form teams of three, each person completing a four-mile loop. Proceeds from registration for the race go to OIWC and its advocacy, education and resources for women in the outdoor, bike and snowsports industries.
