In the first six months of 2009, the retailers affiliated with the German buying group increased their sales of outdoor-related products by 17.3 percent as compared to the same period last year. As a result, the outdoor segment increased its share of the group’s total sales from 16.7 to 18.7 percent. In 2008, the German members of Sport 2000 reached sales of €1.3 billion.

The abundance of snow during the 2008-09 winter season was one major reason for this strong development: While sales of snow hardgoods went up by 18.2 percent during the season, sales of outdoor apparel were also fueled by the good snow conditions. Another major factor, according to the group, was the continued growth in the importance of outdoor footwear and apparel in the fashion and lifestyle segment of the market.

To meet this trend, Sport 2000 is presenting a new exclusive brand at the OutDoor show: Ivy by High Colorado, a label that is especially targeted at women who go for both fashion and function. The collection comprises mainly apparel, but also has some footwear and some equipment items such as backpacks and sleeping bags.

Here below is the ranking of the top outdoor brands in Sport 2000 stores so far this year and the comparative levels in 2008. They show big progress by Mammut and Salomon and declines for Vaude and Odlo, among others.
