The growing offer of canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle (SUP) boards at the OutDoor show in Friedrichshafen and the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City indicates that specialty outdoor retailers are increasingly interested in the category.

This trend was confirmed by the organizers of the Paddleexpo fair, which was held its 12th edition in Nuremberg, Germany on Sept. 28-30. They said that retailers of outdoor and camping products, as well as sporting goods in general, are particularly attracted by the new inflatable boats and SUP boards on the market as well as foldable boats. These products are lightweight and take up little space in the stores.

SUP boards continue to drive the paddle sports market. The experts estimate that more than 15,000 SUP boards will be sold in Germany next year. Between eight and ten suppliers are now offering inflatable SUP boards in the country.

The latest Paddleexpo show hosted 136 firms, up from 121 last year, on 4,986 square meters of exhibition space. They represented 271 brands. The number of visitors grew to 1,405 from 1,369 last year. They came from 48 different countries. The next edition is scheduled for Sept. 17-19, 2015.
