OSC, Outdoor and Sports Company, based in Hyde near Manchester, has acquired Invia Sportartikel Vertriebs GmbH, the longtime distributor of its Mountain Equipment brand in Austria and Germany. Invia was founded some 25 years ago by Thomas Strobl, most of those years dedicating his work to building up and developing Mountain Equipment in the region.

Most recently, Invia has been distributing, besides Mountain Equipment, Bridgedale socks and Jetboil stoves. Invia has been highly respected in the region for introducing and/or developing high-profile foreign brands including DMM, Gregory, Satmap, Troll, Garmont and others, but in the end some 90 percent of the sales were done with Mountain Equipment. Therefore, the partners saw it as a natural move that the British company would take over at some point.

Strobl will remain managing director of OSC's new subsidiary, now named OSC Germany. The entire team of Invia, consisting of about 20 employees, will remain in place. OSC is wholly owned by the Cann family around Stephen Cann, chairman of the family holding company. The takeover will be finalized in the second quarter of 2013.
