Apple is planning a more rugged version of its Watch designed for extreme sports and weather conditions, according to Bloomberg. Known internally as the “Explorer Edition,” the rugged watch would reportedly be offered as an additional model, possibly like the Watch SE or special edition models branded with Nike or Hermes. The features would be the same as a regular Apple Watch, but this model could be especially shock-resistant, with a rubberized case instead of the known steel, aluminum or titanium shells. A rugged Watch is still missing in Apple’s lineup and would make sense given the offerings and success of other smartwatch or fitness watch brands. Apple owns 36 percent of the wearable market and has $30 billion in sales of wearables and home accessories - its most successful segment besides the iPhone.
