The OutDoor show taking place in Friedrichshafen on July 17-20 expects several new exhibitors including well-respected names in the industry such as New Balance, Craft of Scandinavia, Bushnell, Chiemsee, Killtec, L-Fashion (Luhta) and Spyder. Chiemsee and New Balance are especially worth mentioning because they are not necessarily connected to the outdoor business. Other brands have decided to return to the show after not exhibiting last year or perhaps even before that, among them Peak Performance, Magellan, 66° North of Iceland and Rossignol. A brand-new exhibitor is EDM Publications, the publisher of this newsletter as well as of Sporting Goods Intelligence Europe.

Another new guest at the show is IDEAS Active Sports Design Network, a co-operation of 22 international free-lance design studios specializing in sports. A seminar on Friday, July 19, will be dedicated to the trends for Summer 2009 and to a preview of colors for Summer 2010. The seminar will be conducted by Ulrike Arlt, an experienced trade press and fashion journalist.

The winners of the third OutDoor Industry Award will be announced on July 17. There were 280 new innovations from 25 countries that were presented to a high-profile jury, compared with 196 products from 21 countries in the previous year. The jury has selected 24 products that will compete for two golden and six silver awards. Additionally, one representative of the industry will be awarded with the title OutDoor Celebrity of the Year. The jury consists of top trade press journalists from all over Europe including Barbara Smit, a contributor to The Compass and SGI Europe.
