Raids by local authorities on two warehouses and four retail outlets in Thailand have netted more than 4,700 counterfeit Columbia Sportswear garments. One alleged leader of the counterfeit and smuggling operation was arrested near the Cambodian border. The raids, based on a tip from Columbia’s Thailand distributor, occurred after several weeks of monitoring by private investigators hired by the company. The raids and resulting arrests are the largest counterfeit bust to date in Columbia Sportwear’s recently heightened anti-counterfeting campaign.
