Samsonite, which took over Gregory Mountain Products from Black Diamond Equipment in July, is not going to use its own offices in Europe for the distribution of the brand in Europe, where Gregory will continue to be sold by outdoor experts. Andrea Meerholz, the former European brand director of Gregory, will remain in charge of coordinating distributors and agents in the region. She will still be based in Switzerland, moving from Black Diamond's European office at Reinach to Samsonite's Swiss office at Dietikon near Zurich.
Gregory will remain an independent brand focusing on technical, high-quality backpacks, said Fabio Rugarli, president of Samsonite Europe. On the other hand, Samsonite will help improve deliveries through its own strong administration and logistic platforms in Belgium. The company's marketing team in Belgium will also support the brand's activities and strengthen its image in the market.
Under Samsonite's umbrella, Gregory will benefit from a European-minded product approach and from its close-to-market strategy, Meerholz added. There is a plan to develop a collection with a “European-driven design language,” said the company.
