Sharry Jackson, a member of the Australian Parliament and the country’s Labor Party, is urging the Australian government to block Deckers Outdoor Corporation from obtaining the UGG trademark in Australia. Deckers failed to secure a trademark claim to the UGG name in Australia in 2003, when a federal regulator said the word was generic in the country and applies to any type of sheepskin boot. It is making a second attempt to secure the trademark with the Australian trademark and patent authority. Deckers is also aiming to block Australian firms from selling UGG boots through eBay and other e-commerce sites.
