Sport Eybl & Sports Experts increased its turnover by 5.3 percent to roughly €400 million in the fiscal year ended last Aug. 31. The market leader in Austrian sports retailing took advantage of a good winter season and four new shop openings. Another factor for the satisfactory evolution of sales was the development of own private labels since Eybl walked away from Intersport as a buying partner two years ago, even though it continues to license the red and blue logo. To the horror of some Austrian distributors and agencies, the newly launched private label Seven Summits has become extremely successful. Eybl officials say that it has been the best selling brand in the chain’s stores in 2009. Meanwhile, yhis October, both Intersport Eybl and Sports Experts, the group’s low-budget format, are opening one more store each (read more in the upcoming issue of SGI Europe).
