As indicated in The Compass at the OutDoor show, the Polish industry has come together to set up its own federation, the Polish Outdoor Group (POG). In early August, a founding meeting was held in Krakow to create such a lobby group.
Various local brands and distributors of foreign brands attended the conference, including AMC (Petzl), Cerro Torre, Columbia, Euromark (Alpinus, Campus), FAM (Fjord Nansen, Jack Wolfskin), HBMM (Tatonka), Konimpex Plus (Feel Free), Magazyn Góry, Milo, MM Sport (Keen), Mount (HiMountain) Regatta, Salewa, VF Polska Distribution (The North Face) and VMG.
During the meeting, a board of directors was elected, comprising Marcin Gabryo³ek of FAM, Maciej Przywecki of VMG, Zenon Raszyk of Euromark and Micha³ Sojka of VF Polska Distribution. The POG board’s chairman is Piotr Turkot, the publisher and editor of 4outdoor.pl, the Polish specialty outdoor trade publication.
The objectives of the new federation are to create social awareness of outdoor sports in general, and as a lifestyle in particular. POG also wants to expand the presence of Polish brands abroad and to improve the legal and business conditions for outdoor activities. Another issue is the promotion of sustainability and eco-friendly initiatives both at the trade and the consumer level.
To reach these goals, POG will be busy conducting market research to support the exports of Polish companies and to establish itself as a lobby group dealing with public authorities such as the Polish parliament and other governing bodies.
