The Scandinavian Outdoor Group, the export organization of Nordic outdoor companies, has two new members. Sweden’s Didriksons was founded in 1913 and supplies fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts with protective clothing. Houdini is a specialist for first and second layers. The group also recently awarded its Scandinavian Outdoor Awards. A jury of 10 international journalists from the European special interest and trade press, including the editor of this newsletter, got together in Stockholm to select the winners. Bergans of Norway, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, won the prize for the best product for the Summer 2009 season with its tent Wiglo. The best winter products for 2008-09 came from Icebug, which markets the Gemken sole, and BUGweb, a rubber unit that can be attached to the sole to prevent slipping on icy, snowy and rocky soil.
