The votes are in for the U.K. Outdoor Industry Awards for 2019, sponsored by the Outdoor Industries Association (OIA). From the winners, a panel of experts selected Therm-a-Rest's NeoAir UberLiteas as “Product of the Year.”
The winners break down as follows: Pyramid's Lyme Disease Test Kit (Accessories category), Lowe Alpine's Altus 42 (Backpacks), Hydra-Light's Supercell Lantern & Charger (Camping Equipment), Petzl's Meteor (Climbing Equipment), Exotogg (Clothing), Ordnance Survey's New OS Map Features (Digital Products), Ordnance Survey's OS Picnic Blanket (Family), Skinners (Footwear), Therm-a-rest's NeoAir UberLite (Sleeping) and Terra Nova's Laser Compact 2 (Tents).
The selection process was made in three stages. Some 90 products in ten categories were first displayed in July of last year at the new, expanded Outdoor Trade Show (OTS) in Manchester, which drew 950 trade visitors. In February of this year – once a panel of retailers, journalists and testers had narrowed the field to 30 – the vote was opened to the public on the OIA's website. The 30 finalists were displayed at the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show (CCMS) on Feb. 19-24 in Birmingham. In all, there were 1,054 votes that came from consumers.
To qualify for the 2020 awards, candidates will be able to post entries in the run-up to the 2019 edition of the OTS, scheduled for July 9-11 in Manchester.
