The European Outdoor Group is expected to paint a relatively encouraging picture for the European outdoor market at its annual press conference on the first day of the OutDoor show in Friedrichshafen this Sunday, and we are going to send an e-mail blast with the highlights to our subscribers. Apparently, wholesale deliveries to retailers went up for most of the major categories last year. This is in contrast with a report by NPD, based on a consumer panel, which indicates a 4 percent decline in retail sales and consumption for outdoor apparel and footwear in the five major European countries. Spain was reportedly an exception, with a 3 percent increase driven by apparel. We hope to clear up the mystery in our next issue.
