Timberland increased its net income while losing some turnover in its fiscal third-quarter period ended Sept. 26. Sales went down by 2.2 percent to $423.6 million. The net income, however, jumped by 19 percent to $30.7 million, partially due to an decrease in operating cost of 9 percent. While the business in the USA was down at a 9 percent decrease rate, sales were satisfactory at $199.9 million or 4 percent more than in the comparable 2007 period.
