Bergzeit, the German multichannel outdoor retailer, has acquired Outdoor Broker, an online retailer based in Munich that specializes in selling closeout merchandise. Outdoor Broker works with the so-called “liveshopping” concept, implying that a new auction starts every day at noon and remains available for about 2-7 days. The remaining quantities for each auction are shown in percentages of the total stock. Branded goods are sold at discounts of up to 55 percent. The price paid by Bergzeit for the acquisition was not disclosed. Jochen Paul, chief executive of Outdoor Broker, remains in the company and is still responsible for the management of this e-commerce platform, which he founded in 2009. Bergzeit is a part of Sportler, the big Italian sporting goods retail chain based in South Tyrol. It is currently building a new logistics center at its headquarters in Otterfing whose construction is scheduled to be finished in May.
