The members of the professional outdoor group in the Federation of the German Sporting Goods Industry (BSI) have launched the corporate social responsibility project “Social Compliance” in cooperation with the European Outdoor Group. The nonprofit organization Made-by, which works with the fashion industry on the continuous enhancement of social and ecological conditions of production, is a partner of the recently launched project. So far, 10 well-known outdoor brands participate in the project: Deuter, Haglöfs, Lowa, Maier Sports, Mammut, Marmot, Nordisk, The North Face, Tatonka and Vaude. Made-by inspected production figures for 2010, countries of origin of the products, social certificates and audit reports of the participating brands, comparing them with its benchmarks for social standards. All findings have been assessed uniformly and summarized in a so-called scorecard. Measuring the corporate social responsibility status should help improve performances and help companies and production chains create a framework for future development.
