Unterwegs, a German outdoor retail chain, is inviting its clients to collect used down products, like sleeping bags, jackets, blankets and pillows, and bring them to one of its sixteen participating stores. The down will then be recycled by Mountain Equipment and reused for new products. In July 2019, Mountain Equipment announced during the OutDoor by Ispo show in Munich that it had collected almost three tons of used down together with the JDAV, the youth department of the German Alpine Club between March and June. More than 95 percent of it was recycled. About 20 percent of the recycled down was used for the products of Mountain Equipment’s Earthrise range. The collected down was recycled by Re:Down from France. The Unterwegs outdoor retail group is also collecting jeans and wool for recycling purposes.
