Christoph Engl will be the new chief executive of the Oberalp Group from Sept. 1, taking the place of Massimo Baratto after 17 years at its helm. As we have already reported, Baratto has become the European manager of Under Armour. Engl worked for 12 years with a marketing agency promoting the label of South Tyrol, the Italian region in which Oberalp is based. He then became on 2013 one of the managing directors of Brand Trust, a major independent consultancy on brand strategies with offices in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Slovenia. Led by Heiner Oberrauch, Oberalp is the family-owned company that owns the Salewa, Dynafit, Wild Country and Pomoca brands. Besides Under Armour, it also represents in Italy brands such as Speedo, Fischer and Spyder. An Italian distribution contract with Rip Curl has been terminated, but the group has announced a new deal with X-Bionic. Oberalp's total sales grew last year by 5 percent to €196 million, and they are expected to go up at a similar rate in 2018.
