Columbia Sportswear has appointed John Walbrecht as brand president for Mountain Hardwear, starting from March 7. Walbrecht has accompanied the rise of the Fjällräven brand in the U.S. market as the chief executive of Fenix Outdoors North America since 2012. He is to take charge of all aspects of the mountaineering and outdoor sports brand's positioning, sales and marketing. Mountain Hardwear has been supervised in the last six months by Scott Kerslake, who is also the president of Prana, the Californian yoga and outdoor brand acquired by Columbia Sportswear in 2014. Kersdale assumed the interim leadership after the departure of Topher Gaylord, who left last summer after five years in the job. Before his time at Fenix, among other assignments, Walbrecht was senior vice president of global sales and marketing at Spyder Active Sports, president of Spyder Europe and international marketing strategist and board director for Dr. Martens in the U.S. and England.
