Hi-Tec Sports has denied a report in OCC Outdoor that a deal was struck for the Dutch-based footwear company's acquisition by Cherokee, a U.S. clothing and licensing group. Hi-Tec belongs to its founder, Frank van Wezel, after he took the company private again in 2000. Hi-Tec's chief executive and Frank van Wezel's son, Ed van Wezel, said the group has been holding talks with Cherokee a while back for a potential partnership on apparel development. He added that Hi-Tec was growing and investing, for example with the opening of store adjacent to its French office in Les Houches, near Chamonix, and another on a central location near the Vondelpark in Amsterdam, focusing on walking products.
