Implus, the acquisitive U.S. company that owns a raft of sports, outdoor and footwear accessories brands, has snapped up the assets of MCN Solutions in Cape Town, a South African distribution partner for Implus and other sporting goods companies. The move will enable Implus to have its own organization in South Africa to build up business in the region. Implus said that MCN's key stakeholders, Marc Smith and Rebecca Laird, will remain as managers in the newly-formed Implus Africa. Brands owned by Implus include Sof Sole, Yaktrax, Icetrekkers, Trigger Point Performance, Harbinger Fitness, Balega socks, Fuel Belt and more. Implus Africa is to operate as a subsidiary of Implus, which is owned at a majority by Berkshire Partners, a Boston-based investment firm. MCN is the fourth acquisition made by Implus since Berkshire invested in the company in April 2015.
