The U.S. Defense Department is proposing legislation to the U.S. Congress that would make it mandatory to provide athletic footwear that is 100 percent made in the U.S. to recruits for their initial training, in compliance with the Berry Amendment. New Balance can already do that. Wolverine Worldwide is adding new manufacturing capacity in Grand Rapids, Michigan to make Saucony running shoes in-house. It already makes combat boots and other military footwear at the site.
