The Spanish company, famous for its colorful bandanas, will show a wider range of clothing at the OutDoor fair in Friedrichshafen in July, after presenting its first winter apparel line at Ispo in Munich last February.

The potential is big, considering that distributors and retailers have adopted Original Buff's 4-year-old apparel line in only 23 of the 70-plus countries where the brand is currently sold. Original Buff is recruiting a permanent, experienced international sales director to focus on its apparel project, working together with its current sales team.

The company showed some original designs of rather technical running, hiking and trail-running clothing at the Sports Unlimited fair in Valencia last week. Some of its most unconventional designs are going to be worn by a national and an international team of trail-running athletes that the company has put together.

Clothing represented only about 5 percent of Original Buff's sales of more than €20 million for the 12 months ended April 30. However, the introduction of apparel and further strides in the export market helped the company to book an increase of 10 percent in total sales, compensating for a 5 percent drop in the domestic market due to the difficult economic situation in Spain.

Headwear still represents 85 percent of the 20-year-old company's total turnover. Another 5 percent comes from workwear and 5 percent from scarves and other fashion products first introduced three years ago.
