Canada Goose began seeking Intuit designers for a special collection in January of this year, and Project Atigi has now been extended and expanded. The Canadian outdoor brand is planning to commission 20 native designers from the Inuvialuit Settlement Region, Nunatsiavut, Nunavut and Nunavik – all four regions of the Inuit Nunangat (the lands, waters and ices of the Inuit people). Each designer will be creating a capsule collection of five parkas for men, women or children. Accordingly, there will be 100 pieces in all. Proceeds from the sales will go to help native communities, with a goal of fostering local entrepreneurship. Natan Obed, president of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami and leader of Canada's Inuit population, describes the partnership as protecting and respecting the intellectual property and designs of his people.
