Nikwax Waterproofing is entering the world of supplying PFC-free water-repellent technology to manufacturers of outdoor clothing. The company, until now best known for its waterproofing aftercare products, is launching two new garment component products. The Nikwax Hydrophobic Down, built into Rab Down garments, is more resistant to wet conditions than untreated down, which quickly loses its fill power and insulating properties in damp conditions. The Nikwax Analogy Waterproof System mimics the way furry mammals warm and dry. This new system is directional, meaning that it is conceived to force moisture away from the wearer, pushing out condensation as well as moisture vapor. The Nikwax Analogy Waterproof System is being used to construct Páramo waterproof clothing. Páramo supplies, amongst others, the British Antarctic Survey. Both products are completely PFC free, and both have been tested to function in extreme conditions.
