PrimaLoft, Inc., an advanced materials technology company headquartered in Latham, New York, with offices in Xiamen, China, is partnering with more than 15 outdoor sports, fashion, lifestyle and home furnishing brands to introduce PrimaLoft® Bio™ to consumers this fall. According to the company, PrimaLoft Bio is the first biodegradable synthetic insulation and performance fabric made from 100 percent recycled materials, primarily plastic bottles.

“PrimaLoft Bio was specifically designed to biodegrade in the environments where most plastics eventually end up: landfills and seawater,” said Mike Joyce, PrimaLoft President and CEO. Specifically, 93.8 percent of the material is biodegradable within 646 days in a landfill environment. In other environments, the material will biodegrade differently: 76.6 percent in 973 days in a marine / ocean environment or 12.9 percent in 120 days in a wastewater environment.

The first styles with PrimaLoft Bio will be available to consumers in the coming fall 2020 collections from brands such as 4F, ESKA, Goldwin, Herno, Horsefeathers, Icebug, Jack Wolfskin, Klättermusen, Maloja, Namuk, Norrøna, Reusch, Roeckl, Ternua, Traumina and Viking. Other brands like Helly Hansen, Houdini, Montane and Rossignol will follow in the upcoming seasons with their own styles.
