CMDSport reports the recent closure of a couple of outdoor retail stores on the island of Mallorca. One of them is Trekoon, which opened its online store in 2009, followed by a physical store in Palma de Mallorca last year. The presence of four Decathlon stores on the island is said to be one of the reasons. Another recent casualty is a 12-year-old store called Baqueira, due reportedly to an “abusive” lease rate. Baqueira also has a point of sale on the Spanish mainland at Lérida. Quoting an executive of Merrell, CMDSport indicated that traditional outdoor retailers are losing ground to more professional competitors in Spain.
