Sport Partner reports that Demmenie Sport, an emblematic sports and outdoor specialist retailer in Amsterdam, has been taken over by Kathmandu, a group of six Dutch outdoor stores. Demmenie, which was a destination store for many Dutch trekkers, was declared bankrupt at the end of November. The takeover will enable Kathmandu to complement its network with a store in the Dutch capital. Established in 1994, the retailer currently has four Kathmandu Outdoor & Travel stores in Utrecht, Deventer, Nijmegen and Amersfoort, as well as two other stores in Utrecht ? a Kathmandu for Women store and a mono-brand store for Icebreaker. Demmenie, which is more than five decades old and situated in the center of Amsterdam, will continue to trade under its own name, at least for the time being.
