Summit Sports, a predominantly online retailer from Michigan specializing in winter sports, outdoor, water and action sports products, has been purchased by Digital Fuel Capital, a U.S. private equity group focused on online business investments. Established as a store in Michigan, Summit Sports was one of the earliest online specialists, starting about 18 years ago. It currently operates Skis.com, Snowboards.com, Inlineskates.com, Wateroutfitters.com, Campgear.com and Summitonline.com, along with wholesale and manufacturing operations. Digital Fuel Capital intends to pursue acquisitions of other leaders in action and outdoor sports through Summit Sports. The company is searching for acquisition targets with annual sales of at least $5 million, which Summit Sports and Digital Fuel could support in their expansion through their combined skills and other resources. Digital Fuel's other investments include Buyautoparts.com and Logosportswear.com.
