The organizers of the Outdoor Retailer show, which has summer and winter editions held in Salt Lake City, Utah, have announced many new measures to keep costs down for exhibitors and visitors. In 2009, members of the Outdoor Industry Association will save 5 percent on their booths, with this discount growing to 8 percent in 2010 and 10 percent in 2011. In addition, Outdoor Retailer has devised programs to help exhibitors trim the costs of booth, including shipping and set-up. A larger block of hotel rooms has been put aside with rates 30 percent lower than at other locations. Organizers noted that the show is a non-union facility, which makes costs 50 percent lower than at comparable exhibition centers in other U.S. cities with unionized labor. Finally, the deposit required for booking space at the Winter Market show next year will be just 15 percent, down from 25 percent. Members of the OIA will pay the same flat main-floor prices as in 2009.
